Paint it Black

Black rooms ... I've seen some beautiful ones, and secretly admire those daring enough to cloak their walls in the soft shadowy hues of eventide -- Personally, I'm not that brave. Grey is as far towards black as I've dared to go. I must say, however, that sometimes, I wish I'd venture a bit farther into the darkness, especially when I see stunning bathrooms like this one -

I just don't know if I could go through with it. So, maybe not an entire room, but rather touches of black? ... I can do that -- especially when it's softened and worn by time and perhaps the elements - like the piece in this gorgeous room featured on Shawn's blog, Country French Antiques.

I'm going to start with my own huge armoire - I have some gorgeous antique hardware in tarnished chunky silver that would be great on the drawers and maybe two of those large crystal knobs for the doors... I may cheat and paint it in worn shades of grey.
I told you
... I'm afraid of the dark.

I love black too-I painted a low cupboard black (it was army green when I found it at a tag sale)-everyone said I was crazy but loved it when it was finished. These rooms are gorgeous. Just like your blog! I just discovered it and love your style.

When asked my favorite color, BLACK always comes to my mind first, but I say green (which is my second favorite), afraid that I would be thought of as being morbid. However, I was brave once and bought antique satin drapes, that measured 144"x 84" and covered the whole wall in a living room. Several of our blogging friends have painted their fireplace and some furniture black and it looks beautiful. And the picture of the kitchen that Artie posted is fantastic. Go for it. ;)

I never thought of myself as being afraid of the dark ... but perhaps I am as well. Photos are great today.

I really like the black. If the black is too heavy for you maybe you could glaze over it with a pearl glazing medium. It would give it a black pearl look. Now I'm thinking I may have to try it somewhere.

Loving your blog!!
Hmmm, I might be afraid of the dark too, not sure, sure love it in some of those photos though.
But I know I could probably do a dark dark chocolate brown, have seen it, stunning!

...And remember...it's just paint. A couple of bucks and some sweat equity. You could change it 4 times before sunset.

Try it...see what you say.

These two rooms are just exquisite. I must admit to loving black with a passion. One has to be careful with it in a whole room, but it definitely can be successful, as that first photo certainly shows!

I am very fond of black furniture - my favourite piece of all time that I found is a black armoire that was used in a French draper's shop. I love these pics Isa - like you I don't know if I would be brave enough for the black walls but furniture...yes please, xv.

Beautiful inspiring blog!
Even if the main-colour in our home is white I do love these dark rooms.
Many greetings from Belgium, Marjolijn
