The Whirlwind of Life

I don't know about you, but for me time has sped up to a dizzying speed here in Museville. This last week or so went by in a complete blur. I wish that I could say the reason I have been absent is because I was on some breathtaking vacation to an ancient and utterly romantic destination ....

... or on some great adventure of superheroic proportion...

But the truth of the matter is, I've just been swamped! Grab a cup of coffee and I'll take you on what little adventures have been keeping me so busy
Let's catch up!

As many of you know, I wrecked my jeep, named "the Beast", a while back. The Beast was the weekend adventure wheels of my childhood, and much to my utter delight and to the deep dismay of my brothers, it was given to me by my father when I went off to college.

It's funny about our cars -- some of us are practical and pragmatic and a vehicle is nothing more than transportation from point A to point B - and then there are those of us that get emotionally attached. I admit - I loved my jeep. It was part of my identity - present and past -- I'd had it so long, and I never dreamed that I'd be without it. Unfortunately, it didn't stand a chance against that suburban hurling towards us as I rear-ended the car in front of me that came to a sudden and complete stop on the on ramp. After holding my breath for a few days, hearing the words, "Isa, I'm sorry but it's totaled" hit me as though a close friend has just left this life. I was heartbroken.

But after a few months, living as a one car family, the need for new wheels started weighing heavier than the silly stand of saying it could never be replaced. So enter the first thing that has been gobbling up my time: Car shopping. ... and may I introduce the new Beast in town ....

Now it's not really "me", and I know that it is far from green, but I really do need something big enough to haul furniture around, to lug my son and a few of his fellow lacrosse players and all that gear hither to and yon to games and tournaments, and not to mention two 80 lb. Huskies. We'll make up for it by getting Poor Tired Husband a mini Cooper. That should balance us out.

And then there was my 40th birthday -- which still feels like a double-edged sword, but I'm embracing it and getting used to my new title and new decade of life. Poor Tired Husband whisked me away to Coronado for the night and we spent a glorious 24 hours here -- it's really fun seeing my local beauties through eyes of a traveler... I take these glorious things so for granted sometimes...

It was a great birthday full of love and tokens of that love -- flowers arrived from afar from my dearest pull apart twin - Artie. What a wonderful friend and gorgeous flowers. And yes, they smell as fabulous as they look! Thank you so much, twin! xo

And speaking of flowers - I've been all over creation shopping for all sorts of lovelies to make Museville more beautiful ...

And still have been mulling over ideas and perusing shops, flea markets, and estate sales for the pieces to create the perfect outdoor dining room that's been dancing around in my head...

...and for some of those 'just so' pieces that make a house a home ...

Thank goodness for the big new beast -- salvage shopping has been gobbling up time, too! I could happily spend days in places like this ...

I've been up to some fun little projects ... more on this later ...

More shopping... I'm seeing where most of my time has been spent...

I purchased this great antique rug, which I told you about last time I was here ...

But I didn't mention ... that I didn't stop at one rug...
I got this one, too!
Perfect for my dining room.

Speaking of dining rooms -- I've been on the hunt for the perfect chandelier...

AND one that I can afford -- that's been the sticky wicket.

So the search, and the dreaming continues ...

Beyond all of this, other things have been gobbling up lots of time and sanity - not to mention burning a hole in my checking account! There has been the tree trimming, the plumbers, the electricians, painting, painting, and more painting -- it's just been such a crazy, and busy beyond reason week or so.

Just when I felt like pulling my hair out yesterday, the FedEx man came a'knocking. I just love it when surprises show up at the door, don't you? ...and this was a fantastic one! The candle I won on Brooke's gorgeous blog arrived!!

I wish that you could smell this candle -- it has the most divine perfume. I am in love with it! You simply must get some for yourself, and you can at Brooke's beautiful shop - Giannetti Home - you will be so glad that you did!

Thank you Brooke for such a wonderful and generous giveaway - It truly made my week.

and that, my dear ones, catches us up!
xo

Sounds like you got an awful lot accomplished this week...and a birthday too. As for the new age, you can either be an old young person, or a young old person. I got a new screen door this week too. Go to my blog to see it.

I completely understand your identity crisis over the loss of your Wagoneer. It's a car that definitely makes a statement-- I've actually looked into buying one four our weekend place because just looking at its faux wood panels made me want to go antiquing or to the farm stand. I already have the hat to go with it... alas it was simply one car too many for us. Good luck with the new wheels. Best, Nadine

I too have had life interrupt blogging lately, but your tale of it is so much more interesting and antique-related than mine. That first image is to DIE for. And I love your new rugs... so subtle and beautiful in the coloring. Can't wait to get a peek inside museville!

Well, firstly, happy birthday! And take it from me: I turned 52 in February. And the fifties are more fun than the forties or thirties. So chin up, girl! The best is yet to come! My patios are being started this week. So I've got "outdoor room decorating" dancing in my head! (Oh, and I drive a Pathfinder. It's not green either. But I deliver Meals On Wheels in it. So I feel a little better. And there's all those consignment shops I have to haul things home from!)

That was fun to catch up with you! Busy but productive!

Awww your poor car...looks like it was a good one, and had taken you far. My Brother has a thirty year old Land Rover that has rope on the front and bumper stickers galore. His baby...so I know where you are coming from!

The rugs are lovely...and so you!

The flowers, divine. That Artie!

The candle...well I KNOW of that scrumptuousness. YUM!!

I know the feeling - don't know if I'm coming or going half the time. Nice new ride, sorry about your Wagoneer. And the rugs - I love, love, love the rugs you chose. You truly scored that day.

HAPPY 40th!!! Congratulations!!! My husband just celebrated his 37th yesterday and I'll be not far behind him this fall... he remarked to me last night, "How can I feel this young and be this old?" We both feel like we're in our early 20's and yet at some point life has creapt on.

And alas I sooo understand about the "busyness" of life! Maybe it's in the air, this past month has been so insanely busy for everyone I know!!! May Peace be yours!
