Just outside Santa Barbara proper, tucked into the lush Montecito foothills overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean is where I want to be --
because that is where you will find the legendary Hideaway known as
San Ysidro Ranch.
"Myth and history mingle in the fragrant gardens where Vivien Leigh and Sir Laurence Olivier exchanged vows; in the setting of John and Jackie Kennedy's honeymoon."
Winding your way up the beautiful tree lined drive, you know you are in for something special - there is no need for glitzy bells and whistles -
The blend of natural beauty, romantic heritage and classic luxury speak volumes and titillate the soul and senses of even the most discerning traveler.
Nostalgia and Romance mingle with the intoxicating scents of blooming jasmine, lavender and orange blossoms as they dance together in the crisp, clean mountain air.
Everything here bespeaks calm and beautiful. No matter how wound up and caught up in the world you were upon your arrival, within minutes you begin to unwind.
Nothing is built for speed -
...giving you the opportunity to drink in the scenery as you make your way up to the Hacienda to check in.

Climbing trumpet vines and La Jolla red bougainvillea offer a stunning wrap to the quintessentially Californian and quaint Main House.
Just what the doctor ordered.
... You didn't think you were going to have just a "room" did you?
The grounds of the resort are expansive, with separate, private cottages tucked into the breathtaking landscape.
Each one offering its own unique comforts and charm.
Little hideaways in and of themselves.

Once through the gate - you step into your own little world.
did I mention the ocean views?

All the comforts and luxuries one could want...
My favorite is the Kennedy Cottage -- Where John and Jackie honeymooned.
Recently renovated (to the tune of 74 million) the resort spared nothing -- you will find a hot tub on the terrace, and outdoor shower with ocean views.

My sweet Sister of the Mysterious -I love this area so much! I used to work a lot out of Head Office in La Jolla - what a shame this divine 'auberge' wasn't on their recommended hotels to stay!
