Oz is closer than you think...

Tourist season is creeping in... When it kicks into full gear, it gets insanely busy along the narrow coastal roads of our neighborhood -- and for those overcrowded months, the beach is off limits to the dogs.

So, as May 1st creeps closer and closer, Thing 1, Thing 2 and I begin to set our sights away from the beach and towards the east-- on the less crowded and hauntingly beautiful eucalyptus forest behind us for our daily runs.

It's magical.
Lovely.
Quiet.

The trees whisper arcane secrets to one another -- heard by us as a faint stirring -- a rustling of foliage that comes and goes as the sea air dances languidly amid their long, graceful grey- green leaves. The path is worn and winding, and the further in you go, the more enchanting it becomes.

There is something about old trees that speak straight to the deepest, most special part of my heart. ...and this time of year they are donned in a spectacular display of Spring at her loveliest...

Today we were especially lucky - Boywonder came along to shoot some pictures for his photo class - good company and a snapshot in time of our beautiful afternoon run.

While they aren't the poppies in the Wizard of Oz, they remind me of them - beautiful nasturtium, blanketing the floor of the Eucalyptus forest... magical indeed.
Edible, too! We plucked a few to top our salad for dinner.

Dorothy is right -- There's no place like home.

Gorgeous, Isa...specially your son's shot. Nasturtium used to over-run our vegetable garden...love the smell. Merci! Trish

What an amazing sight to see all those nasturtium growing in that woods. I planted a few nasturtium plants in my garden this spring, but they've yet to bloom. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Isa
Well your son's photos are lovely... just beautiful... and how lucky you are to have the beach in front of you and the woods behind.. perfect...

Our beach and park gets a little out of hand in summer also... not so much tourists but ppl from outlying areas... you sort of lose your peaceful place....

Have fun and I read on your other blog you just had your birthday.. Happy Belated Birthday wishes.. xxx Julie

I'm with you dear Sister of The Mysterious. A walk in the forest rings my bells much more than the beach.
