Faded Grandeur

Our Museville "fun" projects seem to get pushed further and further back as we continue to put out fires around here due to the insane weather we have been experiencing in Coastal Southern California. I have never seen such rain as we have had these past months. Thunder, lightning, and this past week - hail. Yes, hail at the beach. Yellow sky backlit by lightning, and my little cottage near the sea rocked to where windows were rattling from the booming thunder. Things that never happen here are becoming commonplace.
Interesting times we are living in.

Living in a 1920s beach bungalow, in an older neighborhood, with older storm drains... well, it's been interesting, alright. Tree limbs, debris that were carried in the floods into the drains are causing huge flooding issues in our little world. If it's not one thing, it's another, isn't it?

So, while we are drying out here, my mind wanders to where my heart always long to be... renovating something more like this...

Or this...

I spend countless hours dreaming of what this would all look like finished...

Dinner here at 8 - on a balmy evening, with gentle sea breezes sometime in 2012 or so...
Shall I set a place for you?

One day this all will be out of my dream and into reality.
Yep, one fine day....

xo Isa

Oh, yes...this is just heavenly! Save me a place, and I'll bring the vintage Perrier-Jouet champagne in the hand-painted Art Nouveau bottles...

Happy dreaming!
PS I have a Provence-based blog which will be an archive of background pieces for my new novel. I've been following you for a while, at first simply because your title collage is eerily perfect as an illustration for the book - really uncannily so. Love all the photos on your blog.

Hi! You may seat me next to Deborah ... I know we will have lots to share.

I do the daydream thing too, it keeps me sane. I will bring freshly baked French bread, honey and olive oil!!!!

Of course I´ll be there, even though I live in Argentina I would like to be there with some bottles of Argentine Malbec wine to toast for your dream come true. Julia C.

Oh these rooms are ancient beauties! I love to wonder what grand parties were held in them!
Great post!

I do the same. I dream of dreamy places and my mind settles in quite well.

I am a painter and found the photo of faded grandeur the most beautiful image in the world, with the sunlight pouring through the window and the floor like liquid light. I will buy my flight ticket now if you could allow me to come a take photos in August 2011. I have been an art teacher for 15 years and am taking a secondment to paint this year, I will never again have the chance and this building I think holds the key to my work.
