Golden Days of Summer

The special beauty of the fading summer is being painted by mother nature around here -- the long, hot days are starting to be bookended by a faint crispness in the air at dawn and dusk - Fall is on the horizon, and to those that pay close attention can hear her calling.

The beach grasses have thrown seed to the wind and dance in their best gilded gown in the morning sun of summer's end. The tourists will be going home soon.

While tourist season has been in full bloom, we have taken to the earliest and latest hours of the day to visit the beach - avoiding the crowds - and we are able to enjoy the most spectacular gilded shows of living art without distraction or crowds.

With coffee in hand, I appreciate the solitude-- the only hustle and bustle around here are the hungry sandpipers chasing the fleeting waves for their breakfast and the occasional jogger. It's so nice and peaceful. I am ready for tourist season to come to an end.

I easily lose myself within the sounds of the gentle crashing of the morning waves -- the heartbeat of the world -- I clear my mind and enjoy the cool sand between my toes - the sultry, slightly briny air - the occasional cry of the gulls - and the rhythmatic lapping of the waves at the shore .. the beginning of the end of summer ...

here in the land of endless summer...

Do you hear Fall whispering to you, yet?

Yes...amazing (in these lands of endless summer) how subtle the changes are. You need quiet to see them sometimes. The color of the sun on the horizon...and where the shadows land has changed. Our ocean is churning and bringing up silky strands of seaweed. It's coming. Ever so slowly...but I have faith!

Lovely images, with a very subtle touch of melancholy about them. Our tourists are still here for a while yet, but fall and blissful quiet will come soon.

Oh Isa, what a wonderland you live in. I just got back from staying at the Hotel Del Coronado and we ventured as far north as Del Mar. I just wish I could have stayed for a long time; that part of the country is so beautiful.

These photos are beautiful, and I am envious of your very near proximity to the beach; how fantastic to be able to visit so often!

I haven't heard the whispering of fall quite yet, other than from retail stores, but, as much as I adore summer, I am finding myself starting to long for fall (or more accurately the falls of my childhood... crisp, cool, and sunny days, which don't quite seem to occur in Texas! Or at least not for a couple more months!)

Yes, I also can hear Fall comming! Allthough the weather isn't bad, more rain has and will be falling and one can feel it in the wind and mornings...As much as I love Autumn and Winter, I prefer to enjoy then inside or when the sun is shining and I go for long walks...Love hearing the rain on my window, on the couch, reading or watching some movie, preferably Miss Marple or Pippi Longstocking were it is so easy to dream away of childhood summers....Your pictures are just STUNNING and I love your way with words....bliss! Thank you for sharing! And I wish you happy a happy Autumn...Cindy
