Help Me Light My Way...

There is nothing more lovely, enchanting or mesmerizing as candlelight. It's soft and sultry glow permeate all of Museville...

and as lovely as this is...

...and this

as dreamy as this is ...

Image from Josephine Ryans's book "French Home, scanned by Trish of Trouvais

...and no matter how much this takes my breath away ...

It really is high time that I procured some lighting for the exterior of Museville -

that doesn't include candles...

Because as pretty as it is --

Since painting, there is something missing from my porches! Light fixtures ...

I don't have a more recent photo (I am SO far behind on catching you up!) since we finished painting, but this one will do for the purpose of showing that I need lighting at the garage-turned-guesthouse, at the front door over there, and as you can see above - for the front door of the main house.

Now - I can't seem to make a decision about exactly what lighting I want. I have wrestled over it for over a month, and the more I look, the more I can't decide. Please ... somebody help me.

The residents of Museville have picked out these various styles and I put them together in numbered collages so you can help me :)

Lanterns

Alabaster/craftsmanesque

and because we're by the beach, I liked the seafaring industrial sorts, too.

I'm leaning towards these two choices below --
the first being these gorgeous stone and alabaster light fixtures -- the one on the left would go by the front doors and the sconces on the right would go on each side of the garage door (nestled into the climbing rose that is now there) instead of a light above ... one resident of Museville thinks it's too modern looking.... what do you think?

These seafaring industrial sorts (and they won't be these exact lights, but just the style) with a big gooseneck over the garage door and the light on the right at the front doors ...

So, I'm having a difficult making a choice, can you help me? What do you think should light up the exterior of Museville, I really do want to know! It doesn't have to be limited to the choices above, feel free to offer your own choices, I'd love to hear what your choice would be because at the rate I am deciding, I won't have exterior lighting for another 6 months!

So much to do, so little time in the day!

Isa, you have such beautiful taste to start with....but I must say that I like the craftsman #3 or #6 for your home!

Okay. I was so ready to play when I saw the FIRST collage...but TOO MANY CHOICES!! No wonder you can't decide. You really made me laugh when I got to the photo of your lampless porch...I was soooo into the candles and the mood and drifting along, that I didn't see that coming! HA! **happy smiles** Deb

Thanks Cheryl!

Deborah you are so funny. I know, I know - so many choices - my head is exploding. The lampless porch is something I am living with, so i'm SO past the point of laughing at it -- I'm about to cry over it. sniffle sniff.

And we all look so pretty by candlelight. I like your exterior choices, too!

Oh my word they are all just gorgeous. You really have picked out some gorgeous one. I like the seafaring ones the best, both for your location and your exterior look of your house. I would put the one for the garage on each side of the door still instead of above. What ever you choose will look fabulous, they are all pretty choices. Hugs, Marty

HI Isa
Well I love all the candle light.. so soft and relaxing.. but it's true they won't come on automatically as you come up the driveway!!

I think my choice would be the seafaring/industrial styles... to add a bit of rustic charm

Have a great week x Julie

You have a beautiful blog. I came over via Color Outside the Lines. I love all of the pictures of candlelight, and the picture of the lanterns hanging from the tree with the tables below - stunning. I hope you pick the ones you showed last. They're my favorite! Following you now! Leon.

Gorgeous and sensible. nothing worse than those awful brass things on the outside of everything you see in new build america. rock on muse shack, rock on!

Choosing outside lights was a hard one for me...I picked several before I settled on the ones...that
FELT right once I put them up..funny how that works..with so many choices you just have to trust your own feelings...till it just feels right on the house..I love the Lanterns # 4 and Under seafaring #2 like the round shapes and dark metal against your house..but thats just from a picture...the real test is brining it home and trying them out...sooo many trips to the store..or waiting for the Fed Exp...:-)

Hmm Girly girl...Even before I saw your last two choices...that's what I chose (sisters from anotha mother...so say I)

Your beautiful home has much more of a beach vibe than a craftsman to me...and I love those onion lanterns you picked!

That being said, I saw THE most beautiful lantern in a local thrift...from ecuador...big and stunning. It would be gorgeous too...a tad unique/eclectic/Isa lives here!

But I wasn't even willing to part with the 150 clams for the rusted piece....

So....long winded...but follow your gut....Cause I would (follow your amazing gut...in a skinny minute).

Love your beach home!

Thinking shutters, perchance? We (well my bro) made some for us that are so perfect!

I agree with Marty - the seafaring ones and on each side of the garage door. Good luck! It's a tough decision. Barbara H.

Hi Isa...love the candles and lanterns. So much inspiration and beautiful glowing warmth.

I am so like you - it took me forever to choose exterior lights. And then when I finally made the decision and placed my order, two days later I was informed they were out of stock! AH! Back to square one. I really love the seafaring/industrial lights. If I lived near the water that'd be my choice. You have a lot of beautiful options. I don't think you can go wrong and you'll be happy with any one of those...because it will be done. :)

Good luck! I can't wait to see what you choose!

Hmm..I'm not sure..I'll have to check out more of your posts to give you more help with lighting. Number 4 in the first group looks quite a bit like the lantern I bought for the interior of the front porch of the main house (it will go in after restoration...I have natural slate for the floor too)

: )

ps Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a note! I like your work counter idea! I have a 7 1/2 foot by 3+ foot parson's table in the family room of the main house which serves as my desk right now. I LOVE IT! I bought it for 10 bucks (delivered!) from a sale at the Episcopal Church a few years ago. It was the ladies' meeting table. : )

I like curvy lines so for me anyone of them with curves, I know the square boxy ones, give me an oriental feel even though they are craftsman style.

Thanks for the sweet comment, Isa, and good look in deciding.

Isa, I am like a child in a candy store... I can't decide which I prefer as they are all so lovely... But I know you have fabulous taste, so whatever you chose will be the right choice.

Oh, how I love candlelight! And I also love the seafaring/industrial lights for the exterior of Museville; they would be a perfect fit.

Yes, lots of choices-- great options though! And I just love candles outdoors. Really want to hang candle lanterns all around outside.

It's true that candlelight, with its graceful flicker, makes everything more magical. And romantic.

Hi Isa. That's so funny that you used the photo of the courtyard with the pink cushions. The original photo came from Josephine Ryans's book "French Home"...but I had just started blogging and didn't know (don't laugh) how to use a scanner. So I took the picture with my digital camera...which is the reason it has that misty quality. The photo in her book is actually very crisp. Maybe I should go back to using my camera! Merci...Regards, Trish

Hi Trish! Actually someone sent that photo to me in email! They must have gotten it from you! Round and round it goes! I'll credit it now that I know where it came from - thank you so much for telling me!xo isa
